Most places tell you to start your seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before you are going to plant outside. It depends on what you are planting, and how you are starting them. If you are planting cucumbers, squash, lettuce, spinach or sunflower and are using the peat moss pods to start, you may want to wait until 2-3 weeks before you are ready to plan them outside.
The peat moss starters are great. Walmart has 72 in one container for around 6.00. I made the mistake of thinking the instructions applied to all seeds. I started my seeds right away because the instructions said it would take 6 to 8 weeks. My squash, spinach, cucumbers and sunflowers sprouted on the 2nd day, and 3 days later they are already 3 inches long.
Now I have to put them in seperate pots all over my kitchen floor because they have gotten too big and they can't go outside for several more weeks.
The tomatoes, onions, basil, dill, and some of the flower seeds are just sprouting, so they should be ok for awhile. Oh one more little tip - don't put them under a grow light unless you want them to grow really fast, because they will. |
