Often you see restaurants packed at lunch time. Many people think it is necessary to gorge themselves with fatty, sugary, or heavy foods in the middle of the day. This is the worst thing you can do. If you have eaten a healthy, well balanced breakfast, and given your body that first jump start it needs, then do your lunch light. By eating too much in the middle of the day, you could be overloading yourself. Think about it, if you went out and had a hamburger, fries, large coke and a desert, don't you feel sluggish when you get back to the office, almost like you need to lay down for a nap. Eating light, small meals or snacks during the day, gives the body the capability of keeping your energy levels at an even keel, without overloading it. By adding too much fat, sugar, carbohydrates and bulky food, you are asking it to work harder at converting energy. This is what causes the afternoon “Crash and Burn” syndrome. If you eat a well balanced breakfast, and then two or three small meals or snacks during the day, your body will constantly burn the same amount to keep your energy levels even. Try having a small snack of yogurt or fruit mid morning, a salad and whole grain bread at lunch, and then a granola or half a tuna sandwich on whole grain mid afternoon. Keep it light and healthy and your body will surely thank you for it. |
