High Cholesterol can be caused by lifestyles, hereditary factors, and outside influences like stress and depression. If you have high cholesterol already, you will need to change some things in your life. You should start with creating a diet that is cholesterol friendly, adding foods like lean red meats, fish, skinless chicken, olive and vegetable oils, whole grain pastas, cereals and breads, 1% or skim milk, low fat or no fat cheeses, yogurts and ice cream, and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Get rid of fatty red meats, bacon, organ meats, butter, lard, foods that use tropical oils such as palm and coconut oil, whole milk and whole milk products such as Ice cream, cream, cheeses and yogurt, and foods high in saturated fats and/or trans fats. Teaching yourself to eat right is one of the biggest steps. You may also want to include a daily omega or flax seed supplement. Next you need to build yourself an exercise program. Even though you may not have time to exercise every day, there are things you can do to increase your activity while doing the other things you need to do. Simple things like taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or parking at the back of the parking lot and walking to a building will help boost your metabolism, increase your heart rate and getting good oxygen flow to it, and burn calories. Next you need to look at the mental side of your life. Is it full of stressful things? Do you suffer from depression, anxiety, anger, sadness? These things need to be brought under control. They have not been able to directly connect these to high cholesterol, but studies have shown that when people are comfortable in their mental health, their cholesterol is lower. |
