Headaches

There are so many causes for headaches. There are so many different types of headaches. Diagnosing the causes of your headaches is sometimes difficult. You can help your doctor decide what kind of headaches you are having by keeping a daily log.

When a headache starts, you will want to notice the time it started. Look back at what you were doing when the pain arrived. Were you working on something stressful, had you been looking at the computer screen for a long time. Were you reading something that was unclear or possible a little blurry. Were you driving.

Did you eat something shortly before the headache started, and what did you eat? Did you drink any alcohol, did you smoke a cigarette, were cleaning with cleaners or chemicals? Were you indoors or outdoors? Try to write down everything you can think of. Also list any medications you took and what time the headache stopped.

Headaches can be caused by allergins, chemical fumes and odors, certain foods or drinks, stress, hereditary problems, depression, anxiety, mood changes, hormonal changes, and even the way you sleep.

Do you get headaches at work, when things are really busy or you are pushing a deadline? This could be a stress headache. Did you get the headache outside, or in a dusty closed in building, maybe after you sneezed a couple times? This could be an allergy headache. Do you get migraines? Do you know that some migraines are triggered by sodium, alcohol, smoking or eating certain foods? Some migraines are also hormonal and hereditary. Did you have the headache when you woke up? Do you sleep with the covers pulled over your head? These are called “Turtle” headaches.
