Foods to Help You Sleep

I'm sure that one time or another in your life, you have heard the saying, “You are what you eat”. That statement is more accurate than you think. If you eat fatty, fried, sugary, high calorie foods, then chances are you are overweight, have high cholesterol, indigestion, headaches, body aches and pains and possible heart and breathing problems.

A little known fact, or one that is not mentioned often, is the fact that what you eat can also affect the way you sleep. If you are eating an unhealthy diet, chances are you either sleep too much or you toss and turn all night.

Try changing your diet to a healthy, balanced diet, and start getting some exercise. Don't exercise too close to bedtime, or you will find yourself tossing and turning all night, because once you get that heart rate up, then your body is burning energy and is raring to go.

Also, eat relaxing foods at dinner and evening snacks. These are foods that contain Tryptophan. You can find Tryptophan in dairy products like cottage cheese, cheese and milk. It is also present in soy products, seafood, beans, rice and whole grains. Combine one of these with a small amount of carbohydrates, because research shows the combination of the two can help you relax and sleep better.
