Sandwiches are good just about anytime. They aren't just for lunch anymore. A sandwich is a good way to get a balanced meal. You just have to use the right ingredients. Starting with your bread, opt for whole grain wheat, whole grain wheat or multi-grain breads. Check your labels and make sure you are buying the kind that is organic or natural without all the sodium or preservatives. Now for your meat. You should use lean cuts of beef, roast beef with all the fat removed, baked or roasted turkey, tuna salad with low fat dressing, or egg salad with low fat dressing. Don't forget the fresh veggies. Tomato, lettuce, cucumber slices, avacado (good for burning belly fat), fresh onion slices, sliced carrots, sliced garlic, chopped green peppers, or any of your other fresh vegetables. Use low fat spreads such as low fat miracle whip, low fat thousand island or ranch, or olive oil and vinegar. Hummus also makes a good spread and adds flavor, and has so many nutritional benefits. Add all these ingredients together, and you have a balanced meal. You have your grains from and carbohydrates from the bread, you have your protein from the meat, fish or eggs, and you have your dietary fiber and vitamins from your veggies. Its a quick and easy way to make a nutritional meal and it is a favorite with adults and children alike. |
