In this segment we are going to talk about Leeks, Mangoes, Nuts and Seeds. Leeks fall into the Allium vegetable category like onions and garlic. Leeks are a green vegetable that is mostly used in flavoring of soups, salads and stews. Research shows that Leeks, like Garlic and Onions helps lower LDL Cholesterol and at the same time raise HDL levels. They also have cancer fighting properties. Allium vegetables should be eaten at least two or more times a week in order to reap the best benefits from them. Leeks also help to stabilize blood sugar levels.


Next on our list of these wonderful healing foods is Mangoes. This a fruit is grown mainly in tropical and sub tropical areas. This fruit has a lot of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Research also shows that this fruit has a special enzyme that actually makes you feel better, physically. The enzyme actually soothes your stomach. Mangoes are also a good source of dietary fiber, and help prevent against certain types of cancer cells. Mangoes contain good amounts of Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Potassium and Beta Carotene.


The third food falls under the category of nuts and seeds. There are many varieties of these. Some of them are Almonds, Brazils, Cashews, Chestnuts, Coconuts, Hazels, Macadamia Nuts, Peanuts, Pecans, Pistachios, Walnuts and Pumpkin and Sunflower seeds. Nuts are high in carbohydrates and oils and should be eaten in small amounts. They are great raw, cooked, roasted or sprinkled on dishes for flavoring. They contain protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin e, Phosphorus, Potassium, and dietary fiber. Many of these nuts and seeds have been shown to prevent certain types of cancer cells.
