I am going to cover three more foods with healing qualities. These will be Citrus Fruits, Flax Seed and Garlic. We know the most of the fruits that fall under the citrus category, such as oranges, grapefruits, lemons, limes, and tangerines. These are tasty fruits, that grow mostly in tropical or semi tropical climates such as the ones found in Florida, Texas, Arizona and New Mexico. Citrus fruits are one of our main sources of Vitamin C. Research shows that the Vitamin C content of citrus fruits helps lower LDL Cholesterol, therefore helping to prevent cardiovascular problems. Citrus fruits also are low in calories and help when trying to loose weight. Centuries ago citrus fruits were used to help prevent scurvy. Newer research shows that Citrus Fruit can play a large roll in preventing certain types of Cancer Cells from progressing or developing.
Flaxseed is another plant product that helps in the reduction of cholesterol. Flaxseed is high in the Omega fatty acid area, which research shows helps prevent clogged arteries and high cholesterol. Recent studies show that Flaxseed also has positive effects on Chron's Disease and Colitis.
Garlic has been used for centuries, not just as a flavoring, but also for medicinal purposes. Ask your grandmother about garlic and she will tell you it is good for your digestion and helps rid your body of cold and flu germs, and she is right, because of its anti-bacterial qualities. Garlic also helps reduce cholesterol, It also helps lower high blood pressure, reduces the onset of breast, colon and stomach cancers, and wards of vampires (just a little joke). |
