The three foods we are going to talk about today that are in the “healing” category are Cherries, Chili Peppers and Cinnamon.
Cherries are listed as one of the fruits with the highest antioxidant content. They are low fat, contain Vitamin C and are a good source for dietary fiber. Sometimes the amount of oxygen released in your body causes anti-oxidation, which in essence causes reactive free radicals. Free radicals attack and damage the cells of your body. Cherries are high in flavonoids, which protect the body against anti-oxidation. Research also indicates that Cherries fight high cholesterol and can have a positive effect on the Melatonin levels in your body.
Chili Peppers, which have been mostly associated with southern and southwestern Indian and Mexican cuisine, have been used in past centuries for digestive problems and disinfecting wounds. Research shows that they help in the prevention of blood clots, and the capsicum content found in them can relieve painful skin conditions. They are also on the list of cancer preventative foods, along with being high in Beta Carotene, Foliate, Potassium and Vitamin E. They also contain Vitamin C, work against bad cholesterol and help burn calories by increasing your metabolism.
Cinnamon has long been used for medicinal purposes. It comes from the brown bark of the Cinnamon Tree. Research shows that Cinnamon contains anti-clotting properties, along with controlling your sugar and stopping the growth of bacteria. Cinnamon also sets in a good position on the list of foods with high antioxidant content. The smell of cinnamon has been proven to boost your brain activity. It contains Calcium and fiber, prevents against heart disease and improves your colon health. |
