Choosing the Right Bread Products

Even though white bread has always been a favorite, especially among children, who don't like the grainy texture of whole grain breads, most white breads are full of preservatives and have no nutritional value. The label may say they have enriched it with vitamins, but that is never as good as getting the grain itself.

Wheat bread, especially the more natural kind is good except for women over forty. After the age of forty, a womans digestive system has a problem digesting the bulgar wheat from this bread. Whole grain breads are always the best, especially if you can get them fresh. Any big manufacturer of breads is going to add salt, sodium and other preservatives to give their bread a longer shelf life.

If you can find a neighborhood bakery in your area, it is better to buy their bread. Most bakeries bake fresh bread every day and don't keep it on their shelf for more than three days. This a lot less time than those coming from a big manufacturer who makes the bread, sends it be wrapped an labeled, then sends it a warehouse to be sorted, then sends it to the store, who may keep it stored in the back for several days and even sometimes a week or more.

Of course there is always the option of making your own bread. There are great bread making machines available, or you can just find a recipe, learn how to add the ingredients correctly, knead the bread and let it rise, and then bake it appropriate amount of time. Sometimes there is a great satisfaction that comes from making healthy, homemade bread yourself for you, your family and friends.
