Vegetables and Fruits with High Antioxidant Content

Food rich in antioxidants, contain nutrients that have a cleansing attribute. The antioxidants help fight and prevent disease. Some diseases, believed to be aided in prevention, with antioxidant rich foods are, cancers, heart disease and Alzheimer’s. Almost all fruits and vegetables, have some antioxidants in them.
 
Usually, the darker the fruit or vegetable, the more antioxidants it has. Blueberries are one of the most popularly known, antioxidant rich fruits. However, blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries have more antioxidant activity than blueberries.
 
If you have a berry allergy, you can get antioxidants from other fruits, like pineapple, oranges, plums. Redcurrant, pomegranate and grapes are also good substitutes. You can get the antioxidant powers from eating the whole fruit, or a 100% juice made from the fruit. The actual fruit will have more antioxidant powers than the juice; but, 100% fruit juice can be as good as eating the fruit. Many people drink pure grape juice, for their daily dose of antioxidants. There are even new berry, pomegranate juice blends that are yummy. Two other fruits high in antioxidants, that people often think of as vegetables, are olives and tomatoes.

Vegetables are also a great source of antioxidants; sometimes even more powerful than many fruits. One you don’t always hear about being rich in antioxidants, is spinach. Chili peppers are also very high in antioxidants. Chop chili peppers, with some tomatoes, citrus, onions, and garlic to make salsa, a refreshing snack that is good for you. Artichokes, turnips, radishes, beets are some of the many veggies high in antioxidants. Another recently discovered food that is high in antioxidant powers, is the Russet potato.
