Beating the Summer Heat

 

Summer is here and it is getting hot outside. You might be tempted to get that iced soda or that ice cream cone just to beat the summer heat. Those are very unhealthy options.


Soda adds the pounds. Drinking diet soda is not better for you. Research has shown that it triggers a whole new set of problems with your system that can actually cause you to gain weight. The components of soda can also cause liver damage and bone loss, not to mention what the sugary stuff does to your teeth.


Colas have a high amount of Phosphoric acid, that changes your urine and causes kidney stones. Diabetes, one of the most active diseases in our society today can be brought on by too much weight gain. Heartburn, acid reflux, flatulence and upset stomach can accompany the consumption of too much soda. Research also shows that soda may cause hypertension and encourage heart disease.


Ice cream, oh how we love Ice cream, but again here comes all of that sugar. There is not sugar free ice cream. You can find Ice cream made without sugar, but it still contains all of the sugar substitutes and preservatives that wreak havoc on our bodies, not to mention the calories in Ice cream.


The healthier option would be water. Good old water, the first liquid that was available to mankind to drink. You can opt for purified, bottled water, or any number of flavored waters out there that do not have sugar, sugar substitutes or preservatives. You can also flavor your water with ½ part juice. It adds flavor and gives the water a vitamin boost.


Eat frozen yogurt or juice slushes instead of ice cream. If made from real juice, you get less calories, less sugar and a little of a vitamin boost.
